New Transformers: Dark of the Moon “Freedom” Ad; Film Debuts Tonight in Select Theaters

At the UK premiere.

By Jason Apuzzo. The wait is nearly over. Transformers: Dark of the Moon arrives in theaters as early as this evening, depending on location. I will admit that I haven’t looked forward this much to seeing a film in quite a while. Check out the ad above to get a sense of why I’m so excited.

I’m also excited because all indications are that Bay & Co. are pushing the technological boundaries of native 3D filmmaking out to a new level. Plus the UN appears to be among the villains. Plus Buzz Aldrin appears in the film, along with Bill O’Reilly.

And most importantly, we get Victoria’s Secret super model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. In 3D.

So if you’re not interested in seeing this film, especially as the 4th of July weekend approaches, please have yourself checked for anemia.

Incidentally, on the day/eve of Dark of the Moon‘s release, somebody dug up Michael Bay’s early music video work with Meat Loaf. It’s absolutely epic stuff – the key video here clearly being Meat Loaf’s cover of “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through,” featuring an 18 year-old Angelina Jolie and exploding jukeboxes …

  1. Oh wow. That TV spot got me even more excited to see TF3, which I didn’t think was possible. Could it be that a movie about alien robots will be what G.I.Joe should have been and what I fear Captain America won’t be? “We’ll kill them all.” Damn right we will! Looks phenomenal.

    1. Make sure to see it in 3D. All indications are it’s the best looking 3D since the blue people movie.

  2. Michael Bay did those Meatloaf videos — I should’ve known … awesomeness just oozes from those.

Jason, I’m a giant pain in the backside to my superiors at work … I never reacted well to any authority, and sometimes I find myself being contrary on purpose. Basically, I never cared what anyone else (besides my parents) thought about much of anything.

That being said, it’s nice to see someone with your knowledge and talent also give Michael Bay some love. I’ve been praising him since The Rock, and people always laughed. I’ve been able to defend my opinions, but sometimes a little affirmation is cool.

    Long live Libertas.

    1. Hey, many thanks, Vince! I have to say on this point that I’ve experienced a gradual change of heart about Bay’s work. This began long ago with Pearl Harbor, and proceeded through to The Island.

I came late on board with the Transformers series, because I initially assumed – quite mistakenly, as it turns out – that a film series that took a toy line as its point of departure couldn’t possibly be that interesting. When I actually got around to seeing the first two films, it became quite clear that the toys were merely that: a point of departure for what was otherwise a big, enjoyable, epic-sized story with style, warm values and humor.

So I’m definitely a fan at this point … and hoping, crossing my fingers, that I won’t be disappointed by TF3. It’s looking very promising, though …

  3. Optimus Prime’s motto on the back of the old toys was, “Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.”

Now we get, “The day will never come that we forsake freedom.”

Works for me. Especially followed by, “We will kill them all.”

Say what you will about his directing style and overall quality of his films, the man knows how to do explosions and *always* portrays the military in a positive, heroic light (I’m looking at you, J.J.).
